Newbattle lies 7 miles south of Edinburgh in Midlothian. In 2003 it joined with the bordering village Newtongrange to form Newbattle Parish.
Newbattle was also the home to Newbattle Abbey - a 12th Century Monastary established by Kind David I of Scotland. The site is now occupied by Newbattle Abbey College.
