The Howgate is an exciting Restaurant and Bistro in Midlothian. The long and low building was originally stabling for race-horses and more recently a dairy, producing a wide range of Howgate cheeses. Now refurbished, the atmosphere is warm and welcoming. An open log fire in the Bistro sets the scene while the restaurant is cosy and a little more formal. Menus change in both the Bistro and Restaurant regularly, and offer traditional dishes, along with some modern style and something for the more adventurous. Starters range from home-made fishcakes and parcels of goats cheese, to warming soups, fresh mussels and Italian Ciabatta. Good use is made of the charcoal grill for salmon as well as locally produced beef, lamb and venison. The selection of desserts offers tempting and inventive variations on popular favourites such as Banoffee Pie, Crème Brûlée, the local and famous Luca's Ice Cream and of course, our very own Howgate Cheeses. A wide and varied choice of dishes are available for lunch and dinner every day of the week. Our extensive range of wines and spirits ensures the satisfaction of every palate. We look forward to giving you a warm welcome here at the Howgate.
