Greater Edinburgh Historic Attractions
The Greater Edinburgh Area, is rich in history and there are many sites to visit during your stay.
Aside from the countless castles, there are ancient religious buildings such as the Kirk of Calder dating back to the 12th Century, and for fans of the Da Vinci Code, you can't miss a trip to Rosslyn Chapel and learn about the Knights Templars.
Much of the area is steeped in mining history. Visiting some of the small villages, you will see examples of old miners cottages and you can learn more about that forgotton way of life at either the Newtongrange or Prestongrange Mining Museums.
If you prefer something more stately, why not visit either Hopetoun House of the House of Binns?
